Time for another plug for my side gig. This time, we’ve just stood up a Gizmos for Geeks version of Amazon.com’s extensive online department store. You can find it at Store.GizmosForGeeks.com.
In a nutshell, this is what’s called an affiliate site. Amazon.com was really the company that pioneered the whole affiliate marketing thing. Nowadays, you’d be hard-pressed to find any online vendor that does not have an affiliate program. Oh yeah, so what’s an affiliate? Anyone out there on the Net that gets accepted to a vendor’s affiliate program can stick up links that go to the vendor’s site. If anyone clicks on those links and then buys something, then the affiliate (like me) gets a % of that sale.
Amazon.com has an extensive set of Web Services that allow affiliate to build sites that pull back data from them in real time, so what you see on our site is what you would see if you were on Amazon performing the same browsing or searching.
You lose nothing, Amazon doesn’t lose much, as they’re quite willing to have their affiliates push even more traffic to them, and we earn income to keep our biz running. It’s a win-win-win situation. How great is that?
So next time you’re thinking Amazon, think GfG instead. Now go bookmark and get shopping.

To think that I started my blog with one of my (shameless) intentions being to plug the rest of my Internet biz, and yet I’ve failed to plug the new version of our flagship site, Gizmos for Geeks. It has been a whole week! Ok, so I’ve been a little busy…
Yup, so we moved platforms, and did a little redesigning. It’s definitely faster now, and there are more of the standard blogging type niceties that people have come to expect. Let us know what you think. Now we can consider it plugged.
While I’m at it, we also quietly launched some related gadget blogs in the way of Gizmos for Babies and Gizmos for Kids. Yup, I’m not kidding. There’s a lot of gadgets out there in just those categories. Even I’m amazed at how many things there are for babies.
If this whole ‘making money on the Web’ thing starts to take off, perhaps we’ll start a blog on how we’ve done it/are doing it… Stay tuned.

In case you noticed that I posted a new article over at my Yahoo Groups mailing list, and then didn’t see anything since, it’s because I’ve completely moved over to my blog at kjh.com. If you know anything about RSS, subscribe to my feed!
For those of you used to seeing e-mails, you can do 1 of 2 things: you can enter your e-mail address into the box at the top right-hand corner of my blog, and you’ll get updates whenever I post something. OR… you can do the cool, new elegant thing and use an RSS reader to subscribe to my (and other people’s) blogs. BTW, not only blogs have RSS feeds. Oh yes, I guess I should describe what RSS is. But… I won’t reinvent the wheel. Here are a few definitions that you can chew on.
I’ll point out 3 Web-based RSS readers and how you can use them for free to access my feed, but there are many others. There are software-based RSS readers as well, but the cool thing about Web-based ones is that you can jump onto any computer, sign in, and there are all of your feeds.

Warning: Shameless plug!
Doug and I have just launched our latest venture, MvixCommunity.com. At CES, we hooked up with a small but promising company called MvixUSA that sells a number of very cool products. The most notable line of products they sell are Media Players, which as a product class have been growing over the past few years. In fact, Apple just released their own such product, the Apple TV.
So what’s a Media Player? [There are other names, like Streaming Media device and Media Center. At any rate, Media Player is what Mvix chose to go with.] Let’s phrase the answer in a problem-and-solution format. Problem: you have media (music, video, photos) all over the place (computer, DVR, etc.), and want to get it all in one place so that you can watch it on your TV. Solution: an Mvix media player! With a hard drive at its heart, an Mvix media player stores all of this media and plays it back using a on-screen control menu.
Anyway, we agreed to start a forum site that caters exclusively to Mvix products. So if you’re at all interested in these types of products, or better yet, if you own one, please jump on, sign up and participate. Tell all of your friends too!

It’s time. Time that I turn on my very small lightbulb in the sea of lights that is the blogosphere. I feel like I’ve been doing this for a long time already… first with sending out e-mails to all of my (e-mail equipped) friends spouting off about some joke, news tidbit or cool new website; then upgrading to a mailing list. To me, blogs are like souped up mailing lists without the need to send out e-mails or maintain the list, and of course, there’s is the nice addition of syndicated feeds (RSS, et al.).
I’ve been sitting on this little project of mine for entirely too long [i.e. years]. First it was to build a website where I could publish various things that I wanted collected in some public arena, then I modified that to a blog when I realized that I would just take too long deciding what the website should look like. Naturally, I’ve been waiting to come up with the perfect theme for my blog before kicking it off. Well, no more. I’ll start publishing and make it pretty later. I’ll also try to migrate some of the older content over to the blog so that I have it all in one place.
Once a procrastinator that is easily distracted, always a … hey, that’s a cool site… I’ll bookmark and look at it tomorrow.

So what good is running a mailing list (or a blog) if I can’t plug my own stuff, eh?!
Doug (a friend I work with at ISX) and I recently built an info/review/community website that focuses on the latest gadgets, gizmos and toys.
We launched the site today and are now in a beta-testing phase. You special folks on my mailing list get to be part of the elite first-view audience. (Do you like how I’m laying on the compliments?!)
We would really appreciate it you can take a few minutes to register, log in, take a look around and give us some feedback. You can e-mail us at feedback@gizmosforgeeks.com.
And without further ado, here’s the site:
