My “Office Space” moment
I totally had an “Office Space” moment this week. It was where 2 of Peter’s (the main character) 8 bosses came by and 1 called to tell him the same thing. In my case, it was only 2 of my 4 bosses, and I broke up into hysterical laughter the second I realized the 2nd one was there to do just that. He was bewildered, and feeling badly, I tried explaining to him why I was laughing. Although he told me saw the movie, he didn’t get the reference, and still continued on with his directions and I had a hard time containing my laughter/incredulity at the situation.
In case you’re not sure what moment I’m talking about, here’s the video (3 mins).
Don’t get me wrong - my bosses (they hate that term, btw) are not the stereotypical idiots that rise to the top of large companies over time; they’re smart, capable guys, but it’s still funny/ironic how communication can completely break down in even a very small organization. It’s also funny how secretly, little companies really want to be just like big companies. Why? Companies are made up of people. People want power. Hell, I want it too.
